Boomers Win Series Opener

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, jumped out to a two run lead in the first inning and never looked back Tuesday night as they defeated the Lake Erie Crushers 7-2.

In the first inning of his first game as a Boomer, Kenny Towns doubled home Jordan Dean who led off the game with a single. Towns advanced to third on the hit due to an error by the left fielder and would come around to score on a passed ball. Bryan De La Rosa got the Crushers on the board with a solo home run in the second. Towns came around to score again in the sixth on an error by Lake Erie shortstop Max Casper. The Crushers looked poised for a comeback after they scored one in the top of the eighth to draw the score to 3-2 but a four run bottom of the frame gave the Boomers the 7-2 victory. Dusty Robinson singled home two runs with a one out single to right center and Paul Kronenfeld laced a two-run homer over the right center wall for his fifth home run of the year.

Kagen Hopkins earned his second win as a starter throwing six and two thirds innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out a season high seven. Evan Boyd threw yet another scoreless inning to extend his scoreless streak to 18 innings. The Boomers record for consecutive scoreless innings is 18.1. Josh Heddinger (2-2, 4.59) gets the start for Schaumburg Wednesday as they play an early game, first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. Ensure your place in the fun at Boomers Stadium this summer by calling (847) 461-FOWL (3695).
