Boomers Walk to Home Opening Win

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The defending Frontier League champion Schaumburg Boomers, drew 10 walks in a 9-4 home opening victory over the Southern Illinois Miners on Tuesday night.

Falling behind 1-0 in the third, the Boomers rebounded with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame and did not trail again. Clint Hardy, Josh Gardiner, James Keller and Jack Parenty collected four consecutive hits to start the inning. Keller and Parenty drove home runs. Casey Scoggins added a sacrifice fly in the frame. The Boomers scored in four straight innings and put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth on only one hit, taking advantage of four walks and a hit batter. Schaumburg scored a run in the fifth inning without a hit.

Schaumburg drew 10 walks in the contest and finished with 12 hits, establishing season highs in both areas. The Boomers scored in five of their eight visits to the plate. Hardy reached base five times, finishing with four hits, three RBIs, two runs and a walk. Sean Godfrey coaxed three walks, stole a base and posted a hit while scoring two runs. Keller and Kenny Towns each picked up a pair of hits.

Joe Hauser overcame six walks to earn the win, working five innings. Chris Hall, Mitch Schulewitz and Jake Joyce also appeared in the game. Schaumburg issued eight walks in the victory.
