Boomers Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The defending Frontier League champion Schaumburg Boomers presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Traverse City Beach Bums on Saturday night.

The first contest picked up in the top of the sixth inning as a resumption of a suspended contest from Friday with the Boomers down 8-3. Schaumburg was able to score three runs on Saturday, drawing within 8-6 before Traverse City plated an insurance run in the ninth to seal the win. Clint Hardy logged an RBI single in the sixth while Dylan Jones and Nick Oddo drove home runs in the seventh.

Schaumburg banged out 14 hits in the opener but could not rally to the win. Josh Gardiner finished with four hits in the opener while Sean Godfrey added three. Starter Kyle Cedotal took the loss. Darrell Thompson came on in relief Saturday and threw all four innings in his debut with the team, retiring the first nine batters faced.

The second contest was just seven innings long and Traverse City grabbed a 5-0 lead despite the Boomers placing runners on base in every frame. Payton Lobdell suffered the loss on the mound despite not allowing a hit until the fourth. Traverse City scored twice in the fifth, once in the sixth and twice in the seventh. Schaumburg loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh and scored twice on a two-out, two-run single from Hardy but could pull no closer in the 5-2 loss.

The homestand draws to a close on Sunday with the first Family Sunday of the Year. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m. with the Boomers sending RHP Joe Hauser opposite RHP Adam Cornwell. Make the Boomers part of your plans this season by calling (847) 461-3695.
