Boomers Kick Off Home Schedule with Comeback Win

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened the home portion of the schedule by rallying to a 3-2 win over the Washington Wild Things on Tuesday night.

Washington built a 2-0 lead against local product Jack Landwehr, a Mt. Prospect native who received the call for the home opener. The Wild Things plated a pair of runs in the third innings before Landwehr settled into a groove, facing the minimum over his final three innings of work. Schaumburg tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Rose throttled a two-run homer to left-center. The winning run scored in the eighth. Julio Gonzalez led off with a walk and reached third on a double from Quincy Nieporte. Connor Oliver delivered the game-winning blow with a sacrifice fly.

Landwehr spun a quality start in his Schaumburg debut, allowing two runs in six innings while striking out four. The bullpen worked three scoreless frames. Darrell Thompson earned the win in relief, striking out the side in the eighth. Connor Eller struck out a pair to pick up his first save. The pitching staff totaled 10 strikeouts in the game. The bullpen has gone 13.2 innings without allowing a run. Both teams finished with six hits. Jack Parenty notched three to lead the Boomers. Schaumburg is 6-2 all-time in home openers.

The Boomers have a quick turnaround with an 11:00 a.m. game against Washington on Wednesday for a School Day. LHP Connor Reed is slated to make his first start for the Boomers while the Wild Things counter with RHP Michael Austin (0-0, 8.44). Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets or call 847-461-3695.
