Boomers Claim Fourth Straight

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Quincy Nieporte delivered the game-winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the eighth as the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, won a fourth straight, taking down the Lake Erie Crushers 3-2 on Wednesday night.

The top two pitching teams in the league continued to show why in a low-scoring affair. Schaumburg grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Clint Hardy double that brought home Jack Parenty from first. Lake Erie evened the game with a run in the top of the fourth, the only run allowed by starting pitcher Taylor Goshen. Nick Oddo homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth to put the Boomers back in front before a sixth inning solo homer from Lake Erie’s Dale Burdick, who was in spring training with the Boomers, tied the game. Parenty notched a one-out double in the eighth and following an intentional walk with two outs, Nieporte drove an 0-2 offering up the middle to account for the winning run.

Goshen worked five innings in his first start following three relief outings. The righty allowed just one run on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Dylan Stutsman grabbed the win in relief, striking out three straight in the top of the eighth, all looking, with runners at first and second. Connor Eller nailed down his fourth save in the ninth. Parenty tallied three hits and score twice. Hardy and Oddo each logged two hits in the victory.

The Boomers (7-4) have moved into a tie with Lake Erie atop the East Division early in the season and will attempt to sweep the series on Thursday night, a Thirsty Thursday featuring $2 domestic 12oz drafts. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets or call 847-461-3695.
