Oliver's Blast Lifts Boomers

AVON, OHIO — Connor Oliver dismantled a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning as the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, grabbed a 3-2 win over the Lake Erie Crushers on the road to win the series.

Schaumburg scored a run in the top of the first and Lake Erie tied the game with a run in the third. That was all either team could muster as two of the top pitching teams in the league went toe-to-toe into extras for a second consecutive night. Alex Polston drew a two-out walk in front of Oliver, who throttled a 2-2 pitch from Kent Hasler over the wall in right. Aaron Hill homered for Lake Erie in the bottom of the inning, Connor Eller held off the Crushers to notch his league best sixth save. Lake Erie stranded the tying run at second in the inning and finished 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position a day after finishing 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

The Boomers came away with a series win despite scoring only four runs on 14 hits over the three games. Schaumburg has won five straight series and boasts the best record in the league. Oliver’s homer came against his former team and was his first hit of the series. Wilkyns Jimenez notched two hits in the victory. Jack Finnegan grabbed the win in relief. Six pitchers appeared in the contest. Aaron Rozek allowed just one run in 5.1 innings. Darrell Thompson struck out five in two innings of relief as the Boomers fanned 12.

The Boomers (12-6) continue the roadtrip on Friday night at Southern Illinois. RHP Jack Landwehr (0-0, 2.50), a Mt. Prospect native and Illinois State grad, takes the ball in the 7:05 p.m. opener. Schaumburg is back at home on June 2. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets or call 847-461-3695.
