Boomers Open Homestand With Wild Walk-Off Win
SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened a six-game homestand with a wild 9-8 walk-off win in 11 innings over the Gateway Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

Rayden Sierra drove home the winning run with a bouncer to third base with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th to score Nick Oddo. Schaumburg fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning but rallied with eight unanswered to snare an 8-3 edge. Connor Oliver tied the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the second before Quincy Nieporte singled home two to put Schaumburg ahead. Oliver added an RBI single in the third and Oddo plated two in the fourth with a single. Gateway’s starter lasted just 3.2 innings, but the bullpen allowed the visitors to rally. Gateway plated four in the seventh and tied the game in the ninth.

Starter Aaron Rozek did not factor in the decision, allowing just two earned runs in 6.1 innings. Schaumburg has not lost a game in which the starter posted a quality start. Darrell Thompson gathered the win in relief, leaving the international tiebreaker runner at second base in the top of the 11th to improve to 2-0. The offense amassed 15 hits. Oddo logged three with Jack Parenty collecting three and scoring three times.
