Boomers Scamper to Walk-Off Win in Extras

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Clint Hardy scored from second base on a wild pitch as the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, walked off with a 2-1 win in 10 innings over the Evansville Otters.

Hardy scored the winning run after the Boomers failed to capitalize on bases loaded situations in the eighth and ninth. Hardy drew a one-out walk in the 10th, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored the winning run with two outs on a wild pitch that led to a throwing error. It was Hardy who broke up Patrick McGuff's bid at a no-hitter in the ninth on Friday night. Evansville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first without a run. Schaumburg tied the game in the sixth when Jack Parenty smacked an RBI single to plate Dylan Jones.

The two teams combined for just nine hits. The Schaumburg pitching staff limited Evansville to three. Starter Erik Martinez threw a career high six innings and struck out six. Darrell Thompson pitched out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the seventh. Jake Cousins twirled two blank innings to set the stage for Connor Eller, who improved to 3-0 with a perfect 10th. Parenty notched two hits for the Boomers, who drew seven walks in the contest. Schaumburg owns three walk-off wins this year, nine last at bat decisions and eight comeback victories.

The Boomers (16-10) conclude the homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. LHP Aaron Rozek (1-1, 2.51) takes the ball on a Family Sunday against RHP Randy Wynne (4-1, 3.25). Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets or call 847-461-3695.
