Boomers Swept in Kentucky

FLORENCE, KY — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were swept by the Florence Freedom after suffered an 8-2 loss in the finale of a series on the road Thursday night.

Schaumburg raced to a 2-0 lead by scoring runs in the first and third innings. Jack Parenty led off the game with a double and scored on a two-out single from Nick Oddo. The tandem produced the second run as well when Parenty singled and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Oddo. Connor Crane tied the game with his second homer of the series in the bottom of the third, a two-run shot off Schaumburg starter Erik Martinez. The Freedom tallied two unearned runs in the fourth and tacked on three in the sixth.

Martinez suffered the loss, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing five earned runs. Parenty, Oddo and Connor Oliver finished with two hits apiece as the Boomers notched six. The Boomers have dropped a season high four consecutive contests.

The Boomers (16-14) continue to lead the East Division and will take a trip to Evansville, Ind. for a weekend series beginning at 6:35 p.m. tomorrow night. RHP Matt Miller is scheduled to make his professional debut for Schaumburg against RHP Randy Wynne (5-1, 2.66). Schaumburg returns home on June 18.
