Win Streak Ends in Shutout Loss

EVANSVILLE, IN —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, saw a season best five-game win streak come to an end with a 6-0 loss to the Evansville Otters in the opener of a road series on Tuesday night.

Evansville jumped ahead just three batters into the game in the bottom of the first. Frontier League Player of the Week Ryan Long flicked a single into left to put the hosts ahead. The Otters added a pair of runs in the fourth inning and scored in all three of the middle innings to open a 6-0 lead, more than enough. The Boomers mustered little offense against Evansville starter Tyler Vail. Vail threw eight shutout innings and struck out 10 while allowing just two hits. The righty sat down 18-of-19 hitters from the second through the eighth.

Payton Lobdell, activated before the game, returned to the mound after missing a month and worked four innings in his first start since May 17. Lobdell dipped to 0-3 after allowing three runs in four innings. Erik Martinez tossed the fifth and Christian Aragon finished out the game with three innings, allowing just an unearned run. Clint Hardy and Jimmy Galusky tallied the only hits for the Boomers, who struck out 11 times in the contest. Schaumburg has been shut out five times this year.

The Boomers (22-18) continue the series on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. with the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week LHP Gunnar Kines (2-2, 3.34) on the hill against RHP Tyler Beardsley (3-2, 2.90). Schaumburg returns home on June 28 to begin a six-game homestand. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
