Boomers Blanked in Second Straight

EVANSVILLE, IN —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were shut out for a second consecutive night by the Evansville Otters, suffering a 5-0 loss on Wednesday night in Indiana.

Gunnar Kines picked up where he left off last week as the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week put up zero after zero on the board. The lefty was matched by Tyler Beardsley on the hill. Beardsley, who threw a complete game in a win over the Boomers on June 16, allowed just five hits in tossing a complete game shutout. Schaumburg loaded the bases in the fourth and seventh but came up empty both times. Evansville opened a 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI double from Carlos Castro in the sixth before scoring four times in the seventh.

Kines took the hard luck loss, allowing just one run in six innings while not walking a batter and striking out eight. Five different individuals posted hits for the Boomers in the loss. Evansville has thrown two complete game shutouts on the year, both against the Boomers. Schaumburg has been shut out four times by the Otters in eight meetings this season.

The Boomers (22-19) wrap the brief three-game road series on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. with RHP Matt Miller (2-0, 2.46) on the mound against LHP Austin Nicely (1-4, 9.00). Schaumburg returns home on Friday to begin a six-game homestand featuring five fireworks nights. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
