Boomers Swept in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped the finale with the Evansville Otters on Thursday night by a 7-2 score as Evansville swept the series.

Carlos Castro put the Otters ahead in the bottom of the second with a solo homer against Aurora, Ill. native Matt Miller, who started for the Boomers. Ryan Long tripled home a pair in the third to make the score 3-0. Schaumburg was able to break the longest scoreless streak of the season with a single run in the fourth when Brock Carpenter doubled home Nick Oddo. The run marked the first since the eighth inning on Sunday, a stretch of 21.2 innings. Evansville extended the lead to 7-1 behind four runs in the fifth. Schaumburg scored their final tally in the sixth on a two-out RBI single from Dylan Jones to plate Quincy Nieporte.

Nieporte and Carpenter both tallied two hits in the losing effort. Miller suffered the loss, working three innings and allowing three runs. Michael McCraith struck out four in working the final five innings of the contest in his Schaumburg debut. McCraith was obtained in a trade with River City to start the week. Schaumburg did not lead in the series. The Otters finished 7-2 against the Boomers this year.
