Boomers Edged in Homestand Opener

SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, kicked off an action packed six-game homestand with a 3-1 loss to the Florence Freedom on Friday night.

The Boomers did not have a hit until the bottom of the sixth as Florence starter Scott Sebald retired 15 straight after walking Clint Hardy to begin the game. Connor Oliver broke up the no-hitter with a single to lead off the sixth. Florence grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Jackson Pritchard and added a pair of unearned runs in the fifth against Schaumburg starter Aaron Rozek, who suffered the loss. Schaumburg broke up the shutout in the ninth on consecutive doubles from Quincy Nieporte and Jimmy Galusky to chase Sebald from the contest before All-Star Johnathan Tripp recorded back-to-back strikeouts to seal the win.

Rozek allowed just one earned run in six innings, dipping to 2-3 on the year despite striking out a career high seven. Dylan Stutsman, Darrell Thompson and All-Star Connor Eller each threw perfect innings to close out the contest. Nieporte tallied two hits for the Boomers.

The Boomers (22-21) have dropped four in a row and continue the homestand on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. with the second game against the Freedom, who own the best record in the league. LHP Connor Reed (2-2, 2.57) takes the ball in the contest against LHP Mike Castellani (4-1, 2.25), an All-Star selection for the Freedom.
