Late Rally Sends Windy City to Win

SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, fell victim to a late rally by the Windy City ThunderBolts in dropping a 4-3 decision in 10 innings on Wednesday night.

Both starting pitchers put up consistent zeroes until the bottom of the fifth when the Boomers were able to break through. Jimmy Galusky led off the inning with a double and scored with two outs on a double from Clint Hardy. Hardy padded the lead to 2-0 with another two-out RBI in the bottom of the seventh, singling home Brock Carpenter against the Windy City bullpen. Jack Parenty logged his league best fourth triple with one out in the eighth and scored moments later when Quincy Nieporte singled.

Windy City had only one hit through eight innings against Aurora, Ill. native Matt Miller, who started for the Boomers, but scored three runs in rapid fashion including two with two outs against All-Star closer Connor Eller to send the game to extras. The visitors were able to take the lead with two outs in the 10th moments after Hardy threw out the go-ahead run at the plate.

Miller took a shutout into the ninth inning but was hit with a no-decision after allowing two runs on three hits in 8.1 innings with a walk and a career high seven strikeouts. Eller suffered the loss, slipping to 4-2 on the year. Parenty finished with three hits as the Boomers totaled 11, a third consecutive double-digit hit performance. Nieporte and Hardy added two each.

The Boomers (23-24) conclude the series on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Schaumburg has yet to announce a starter while Windy City will send RHP Austin Jones (1-3, 5.12). It is Independence Day! Presented by Friendly Ford featuring postgame fireworks to celebrate presented by Wintrust Community Banks. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
