Early Fireworks Send Boomers to Series Win

SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, provided some early fireworks before the largest crowd of the year, scoring four runs in the first inning to grab a 13-5 decision over the Windy City ThunderBolts and win the series.

The Boomers sent nine men to the plate in the first. Jack Parenty led off the game with a double and scored on a triple from Jimmy Galusky. Quincy Nieporte opened his career game with a run scoring single, the third consecutive hit as the Boomers led 2-0. Connor Oliver tacked on a two-run single in the inning. Windy City starter Austin Jones lasted just two innings as Matt Rose extended the lead to 6-0 with a two-strike, two-out double to score a pair.

Windy City scored twice in the fourth and brought the tying run to the plate, but Nieporte homered in the bottom of the frame to further the lead. Schaumburg put the game out of reach with six runs on just two hits in the bottom of the seventh, sending 11 men to the plate to take advantage of six walks and three wild pitches. Nieporte knocked home two with his fourth hit of the night in the frame. Windy City scored three in the ninth to account for the final.

The Boomers banged out 12 hits and have recorded double-digit hits in four consecutive contests. Nieporte finished 4-for-4 with four RBIs, a stolen base and a walk. Erik Martinez made the start and worked four innings, allowing two runs while striking out five. Christian Aragon earned the win, improving to 2-0 after throwing three scoreless frames.
