Boomers Pitch to Third Straight Series Win

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, won a third consecutive series by dispatching the Washington Wild Things 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in a pitcher’s duel.

The teams traded zeroes throughout the contest as Schaumburg’s Gunnar Kines and Washington’s Michael Austin denied consistent chances. The Boomers broke through against Austin in the bottom of the sixth with two runs. Matt Rose and Connor Oliver logged singles to start the inning and moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Jimmy Galusky. Nick Oddo opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to short center and Brock Carpenter accounted for the winning run with a double to deep left.

Washington notched three straight hits to open the seventh to score a run, but Dylan Stutsman came on in relief and retired all six batters faced, leaving the tying and go ahead run in scoring position in the seventh. Connor Eller closed out his 11th save by leaving the tying run in scoring position in the ninth.

Kines, who was activated from the injured list before the game, earned his second consecutive win, striking out six in working into the seventh inning. The Boomers mustered seven hits, two of which came from Jack Parenty, who owns a nine-game hitting streak, longest of the season by a Boomers player. Alex Polston saw his on-base streak end at 14 games but Rose extended his streak to 13 games.

The Boomers (28-26) are off Monday and Tuesday before a doubleheader on Wednesday night against the River City Rascals in suburban St. Louis in the first meeting of the year between the two teams. Schaumburg returns home on July 19 to begin a six-game homestand. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
