SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, utilized four pitchers to spin a combined 1-0 shutout of the Southern Illinois Miners in the opener of a mid-week series on Tuesday night.

The only run of the game came across in the bottom of the third inning. Dylan Jones was hit by a pitch to start the inning, moved to second on a wild pitch and reached third when Alex Polston singled. Jack Parenty knocked home the only run with a sacrifice fly.

Payton Lobdell consistently shut down opportunities for Southern Illinois on the mound, working six blank innings. Southern Illinois had a runner in scoring position in five straight frames but could not break through. Lobdell has not allowed a run against Southern Illinois in 15 innings against his former team. The righty struck out five while walking one and allowing eight hits to improve to 2-4 on the season. Dylan Stutsman struck out four in 1.2 innings with Darrell Thompson finishing out the eighth. Connor Eller struck out the side in the ninth to earn his league best 14th save and convert on a fifth consecutive opportunity.

Both teams stranded 10 on base. The Boomers finished with six hits, three of which came from Clint Hardy who doubled twice. Schaumburg drew three walks and were hit by a pitch four times. The shutout marked the fifth of the season for the Boomers.
