Boomers Ease Past Southern Illinois

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, amassed 15 hits as all nine members of the lineup reached base while easing to a 12-3 home win over the Southern Illinois Miners.

The Boomers, winners of three in a row, did not waste any time in grabbing the lead, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. Jack Parenty led off the game with a walk and Clint Hardy followed with a single. The first run scored when Quincy Nieporte reached on an error and the second crossed on an RBI groundout from Nick Oddo. Schaumburg sent 11 men to the plate in the second inning, scoring five runs to open a 7-0 advantage. Chase Dawson and Oddo recorded RBI singles in the inning while Nieporte notched a two-run double and another run scored on an error.

Aaron Rozek was the beneficiary of the run support. Rozek worked six innings and allowed three runs in the fourth but finished with a season high eight strikeouts. Newcomer Jumpei Akanuma tossed the final three frames to notch the save in his debut. Six players tallied more than one hit led by three from Hardy. Nieporte finished with four RBIs. The Boomers have won five in a row over Southern Illinois.

The Boomers (33-28) conclude the homestand on Thursday with a 12:05 p.m. contest on another The Office themed Business Day Game. RHP Matt Miller (3-1, 2.91) takes the ball for the Boomers against RHP Ryan McAuliffe (1-3, 4.73). Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
