Boomers Pitch to Win in Opener with River City
SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, pitched to a 3-1 win over the River City Rascals on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series, pulling into a first place tie in the East Division.

Quincy Nieporte opened the scoring with a solo homer leading off the fourth inning against River City starter Taylor Ahern, his sixth homer of the season. Dylan Jones would add a two-out RBI single to plate Nick Oddo in the inning. Nieporte was able to provide insurance in the seventh with his fourth hit, an RBI single to score Jones.

Aaron Rozek did the rest. The lefty worked into the eighth inning and did not allow a run until the eighth, improving to 5-3 by striking out seven. Darrell Thompson stranded the tying runs in scoring position and Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Connor Eller converted on his fourth straight perfect save and his eighth in a row overall. Eller saved his league best 17th game of the season to pull into a tie for the second most in single season team history. The offense banged out double-digit hits led by four from Nieporte, on his birthday. Oddo and Jones added two apiece.

The Boomers (36-30) continue the four-game series on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. on a $1 hot dog night. RHP Matt Miller (3-2, 2.70) makes the start for Schaumburg against RHP Austin Dubsky (4-3, 5.95). Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
