Boomers Win on Day Camp Day

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Before 5,602 on Day Camp Day, the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, once again pulled into a tie for first in the Frontier League’s East Division behind a 4-1 victory over the River City Rascals.

Quincy Nieporte got the game off to a loud start with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first with two outs, his seventh of the year. Jack Parenty, who doubled to start the game, was along for the ride. River City scrapped to within 2-1 behind a single tally in the top of the fifth, but the Boomers put the game away with two in the bottom of the inning. Nieporte notched an RBI single in the frame and Brock Carpenter drew a bases loaded walk.

Gunnar Kines worked six innings on the mound to pull into a tie for the most career wins in franchise history. Kines struck out seven and allowed just three hits. Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Connor Eller closed out the game with his fifth consecutive perfect save, converting on his ninth straight opportunity to tally his 18th of the year, moving into sole possession of second place on the single season record board. Nieporte, Parenty and Matt Rose notched two hits each as the Boomers posted seven in the win.

The Boomers (37-31) conclude the four-game stint with another day game on Thursday at 12:05 p.m. on a The Office: Business Day Game presented by Rieke Office Interiors.
