Boomers Add Left-Handed Bat

The Schaumburg Boomers have added 1B Nick Ames to the roster for the 2021 season.

Ames comes to the Boomers following two seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization. The left-handed hitter slugged .405 over his two years with the Tigers, hitting 19 homers with 35 doubles and 86 RBIs over 167 games. Splitting time between West Michigan and Lakeland in 2019, Ames combined to hit 10 homers with 24 doubles while driving home 58 runs. The Tucson, Ariz. native batted .348 for West Michigan over 31 games before being promoted to Lakeland in 2019. Ames opened his professional career in 2018 by splitting time between the Tigers Gulf Coast League and the New York-Penn League teams.

“Nick will provide versatility to the lineup,” said Vice President and General Manager Michael Larson. “He brings a proven powerful left-handed bat to compliment our strong right-handed hitters.”

Ames was chosen in the 15th round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. The 24-year old hit over 30 homers in three years as a starter at UNLV, including 18 in 2018 which ranked among the national leaders. Ames drove home 73 runs in 2018, sixth nationally, and finished his time at UNLV with 138 RBIs over 155 games. Ames logged nearly 160 hits over his career at UNLV, almost half of which went for extra bases.
