Four-Run Fourth Drops Boomers in Homestand Opener

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers opened a seven-game homestand with a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Evansville Otters.

The Boomers jumped ahead in the first inning. Chase Dawson blooped a double with two outs before Quincy Nieporte hammered his first homer of the year over the wall in left, putting the Boomers ahead 2-0. Evansville scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead, utilizing four consecutive singles to start the frame. A two-run homer in the sixth accounted for the final.

Orlando Rodriguez struck out six in six innings of work but suffered the loss. Stephen Chamblee logged two scoreless frames while Thomas Nicoll struck out a pair in the ninth. The Boomers managed just six hits in the game while striking out a season high 11 times. Six different individuals notched hits.

The Boomers (3-5) continue the homestand on Saturday night with postgame fireworks presented by Wintrust Community Banks.
