Boomers Claim First Extra-Inning Win

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers plated three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to claim a frantic 11-10 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Wednesday night.

With the wind howling out, both teams took advantage with a combined six homers. Windy City hit back-to-back homers in the first to take a 2-0 lead and Quincy Nieporte hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning to tie the score. Alberto Schmidt put the Boomers ahead at 3-2 with an RBI single in the second before Windy City scored four answered, using a three-run homer in the third to open a 6-3 edge. Chase Dawson drove home a run with a bunt single in the fourth and Nieporte followed with his second blast, a three-run homer to give the Boomers the lead. Nieporte, who leads the league with 10 homers, drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth as the Boomers led 8-6.

Windy City tied the game with two runs in the eighth and plated a pair of runs in the 10th to lead 10-8. Dawson scored on a wild pitch with one out in the bottom of the inning and Nick Ames tied the game with a solo homer to right. Pinch-runner Brett Milazzo scored the winning run with two outs on an infield single from Clint Hardy that was misplayed, allowing Milazzo to cross and the celebration to ensue.

Bryan Ketchie worked five innings in his professional debut and departed in line for the win. Darrell Thompson picked up the win by working the 10th, improving to 2-0 on the year. Schaumburg finished with a season high 19 hits as every member of the lineup notched at least one with seven tallying more than one. Schaumburg has scored over 10 runs in a game five times this year while notching multiple homers on seven occasions. The Boomers own 11 games with 10 or more hits and have homered more than once, scored more than 10 runs and hit more than one homer in three straight contests.

The Boomers (14-11) will aim for the sweep tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. RHP Ryan Middendorf (2-1, 2.46) takes the ball for the Boomers against LHP Miguel Ausua (1-0, 4.08).
