Boomers Slip in Joliet

JOLIET, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers waited through a rain delay of over and hour, but dropped a 7-4 decision to the Joliet Slammers in the middle game of the series on Saturday night.

Schaumburg could not hold a pair of leads in the contest. Chase Dawson singled in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly from Nick Oddo. Dawson then hit his second homer of the year in the fourth. Joliet scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game against starter Andrew Dean. Alec Craig doubled home Clint Hardy in the fifth to again put the Boomers ahead but Joliet scored three in the bottom of the inning as part of scoring runs in four consecutive frames. The final run for Schaumburg came in the top of the ninth on an RBI double from Luke Becker.

Dean worked five innings and suffered the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out six. Craig finished with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as the Boomers totaled eight hits in the game, four of which were for extra bases. Becker totaled two hits out of the leadoff slot and Dawson notched two hits with two runs.

The Boomers (15-13) conclude the series with a third rubber game against the Slammers this year on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. RHP Orlando Rodriguez (2-1, 3.52) takes the ball for the Boomers against RHP Cam Aufderheide (0-2, 3.38).
