Boomers End June with Victory

CRESTWOOD, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers scored six unearned runs, taking advantage of four errors to record an 11-10 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts on the road Wednesday night on the final day of June.

Windy City held a brief 2-0 lead after scoring twice in the bottom of the second. Brett Milazzo tied the game with a two-run homer in the top of the third and Quincy Nieporte added another RBI to his league leading total with a double as the Boomers led 3-2. Windy City tied the game in the bottom of the inning before Schaumburg plated three unearned runs to take the lead for good in the fourth, executing a delayed double steal of home. Chase Dawson drilled a three-run homer in the sixth and two unearned runs scored in the eighth as the Boomers led 11-5. Windy City plated four unearned runs among five total in the eighth to draw within 11-10, but Jake Joyce stranded the tying run in the ninth to secure the victory.

Ryan Middendorf grabbed the win, allowing just one earned run in five innings. The Schaumburg pitching staff allowed eight unearned runs. Joyce nailed down his second save of the year. Dawson finished with three hits, three runs and three RBIs. Nieporte also tallied three hits.

The Boomers (17-14) close the roadtrip with the rubber game on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Kyle Arjona (3-3, 3.41) the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week is scheduled to start for the Boomers opposite RHP Tyler Thornton (3-3, 2.51).  Schaumburg returns home for Independence Day weekend with three nights of fireworks.
