Late Rally Falls Short in Series Opener

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers fell behind 6-0 but rallied to place the tying run in scoring position in the eighth inning before falling to the Windy City ThunderBolts 8-6 in the opener of a mid-week series.

Windy City scored two runs in the top of the first on a two-out two-run homer from Peyton Isaacson. The ThunderBolts added another run in the second and three in the third to build a 6-0 edge. Schaumburg cut the lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the third. Alec Craig drew a bases loaded walk and Chase Dawson singled home a pair. Windy City tacked on a single run in the fifth before the Boomers came storming back. Luke Becker scored an unearned run in the seventh and Quincy Nieporte doubled home Dawson in the eighth before scoring on a groundout from Nick Ames but the Boomers stranded the tying run at second and Windy City plated an insurance run in the ninth to nab the win.

Ryan Middendorf suffered the loss in his third consecutive start against Windy City, working five innings and allowing a season high seven runs. The teams are meeting in a mid-week series for the fourth consecutive week. Isaiah Rivera struck out five in three scoreless innings of relief. Craig and Nick Oddo finished with hits each as the Boomers tallied eight.
