Boomers Swept by Windy City

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers were swept for the first time this season, dropping a 5-1 contest to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the finale of a six-game homestand on Thursday night.

Windy City did not trail in the series and scored twice in the second and tacked on two more in the third to lead 4-0. A single run in the fifth made the score 5-0. The Boomers managed just four hits in the loss but scored a run in the bottom of the seventh. Quincy Nieporte doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Angelo Gumbs. Schaumburg placed just two runners in scoring position in the contest. Nieporte finished with two hits. Andrew Dean worked six innings and suffered the loss. Stephen Chamblee tossed a pair of scoreless innings and Andrew Cartier worked a perfect ninth.

The Boomers (19-19) will not return home until July 20 as the team opens a nine-game roadtrip on Friday night in Indiana against the Evansville Otters. RHP Orlando Rodriguez (3-1, 2.82) will try to put a stop to a five-game skid against RHP Tim Holdgrafer (3-1, 4.75). Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
