Boomers Held Off at Windy City

CRESTWOOD, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers put the tying runs in scoring position with two outs in the ninth but could not overcome an early deficit in a 3-1 loss to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the series finale on Sunday.

Isaiah Rivera made a spot start for the Boomers and retired the first two batters of the game. The next two reached before Jairus Richards slapped a triple to score two and put Windy City ahead. Another run came across in the second as the ThunderBolts opened a 3-0 edge. The only Schaumburg run came in the top of the fourth. Alec Craig led off with a single and scored on a groundout from Chase Dawson. Dawson singled in the ninth and Luke Becker walked with tow outs before a double steal and a walk loaded the bases but Windy City escaped with the win.

Rivera threw three innings but suffered the loss. Marist product Jack Snyder, signed before the game, tossed three scoreless frames and struck out four. Nate Thomas and Ryder Yakel also threw scoreless innings in the contest. Schaumburg finished with just four hits, two of which came from Brett Milazzo. Craig stole second in the sixth, his 24th of the year to set the single season team record. The Boomers were still able to win two-of-three in the series.

The Boomers (33-26) take Monday off before heading to Florence, Kentucky on Tuesday for the first series of the year against the Florence Y’Alls. Schaumburg returns home on August 6 to begin a stacked homestand that features three fireworks nights. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
