Boomers Drop Late Decision

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers came out on the short end of a 7-5 decision after a pair of runs scored in the ninth in the middle game with the Windy City ThunderBolts.

Windy City jumped ahead with three runs in the top of the second against spot starter Ryder Yakel. The Boomers responded with four in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Clint Hardy and Brett Milazzo posted back-to-back singles before a sacrifice fly from Nick Oddo plated the first run. Alec Craig connected on his second triple of the year to deep center, drawing Schaumburg within 3-2. Matt McGarry followed with a two-run homer to put the Boomers ahead, his fifth of the season. Windy City scored twice in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 edge before an RBI single from McGarry in the bottom of the inning tied the game. The ThunderBolts scored a pair of runs in the ninth to nab the win, a sixth in a row over the Boomers in Schaumburg.

Yakel worked two innings followed by three from Isaiah Rivera. Jack Snyder struck out a pair in two scoreless innings while Jake Joyce tossed the final two innings and suffered the loss. McGarry finished 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs to lead a nine-hit attack. Craig and Milazzo both notched two hits apiece.

The Boomers (34-30) continue the action-packed homestand on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Boomers backpack on Back to School Night jersey courtesy of Harper College. Schaumburg will send RHP Ryan Middendorf (7-3, 3.01) to the mound against former Schaumburg hurler Bryan Ketchie (1-5, 5.86).
