Boomers Overcome Rain to Best Equipe Quebec

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Following a near three-hour rain delay the Schaumburg Boomers were able to overcome Equipe Quebec to score an 8-5 win in the opener of a three-game series at Wintrust Field.

Equipe Quebec put unearned runs on the board in the first and second before the Boomers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Clint Hardy singled home a pair and scored the go-ahead run when Luke Becker was caught in a rundown. The visitors evened the game in the top of the third before Schaumburg added a single run on an infield single from Chase Dawson to take the lead for good. The Boomers tacked on three more in the fourth to lead 7-3. Becker plated Matt Bottcher with an RBI single and Alec Craig posted a two-run single. The final run came around in the eighth after Hardy tripled to start the inning, the first extra-base hit of the night, and scored on a double from Becker.

Kyle Arjona threw seven innings to earn his eighth win of the year, matching the league leaders. Arjona surrendered just one earned run while striking out six, working at least seven innings for the eighth time in the last nine starts. Jack Snyder tossed the eighth and Thomas Nicoll the ninth. Schaumburg totaled 13 hits. Craig and Hardy finished with three hits each with both driving home two runs. Craig stole a pair of bases as the Boomers swiped four in the win. Braxton Davidson, added in a trade with Joliet yesterday, notched two hits in his Schaumburg debut.

The Boomers (35-31) continue the series on Tuesday night with LHP Jesse Remington (1-1, 3.52) on the mound against LHP David Gauthier (3-3, 5.44) on Autism Awareness Night presented by Roots Autism Solutions.
