Boomers Drop Another Two-Run Decision

MARION, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers dropped a second consecutive two-run decision to the surging Southern Illinois Miners, falling 5-3 on the road Saturday.

Nick Oddo handed the Boomers their first lead of the series with a solo homer down the right field line in the top of the third. Southern Illinois responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The runs were sandwiched around a rain delay of just under an hour in the middle of the half inning. Chase Dawson walked to lead off the fourth and scored from first with two away when Braxton Davidson doubled off the wall in straightaway center. The homestanding Miners scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to open a 5-2 advantage. Davidson tallied his second double leading off the ninth and scored on a groundout from Brett Milazzo to account for the final.

Kyle Arjona worked six innings but suffered the loss, allowing four runs. Arjona walked two and struck out four. Davidson, Oddo and Matt Bottcher tallied two hits each as the Boomers finished with eight.

The Boomers (39-37) conclude the brief three-game series on Sunday night at 5:05 p.m. LHP Jesse Remington (3-1, 3.86) faces RHP Chase Cunningham (4-3, 2.70) in the contest.
