Boomers Open Roadtrip with Shutout of Lake Erie

AVON, OHIO — A night after securing the Frontier League’s Central Division title, the Schaumburg Boomers opened a six-game roadtrip with a 6-0 win over the Lake Erie Crushers to match the team’s single season record for shutouts with the 10th of the year.

The Boomers jumped ahead with single runs in the second and third. Quincy Nieporte doubled to open the second and scored on a double from Braxton Davidson. Alberto Schmidt kicked off the third with a single and Alec Craig followed with a double. Matt Bottcher came through with a two-out single up the middle to make the score 2-0. Clint Hardy stretched the lead to 4-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth and added another RBI with a single to score Brett Milazzo in the seventh. The final run crossed when Dusty Stroup doubled home Nieporte.

Erik Martinez tossed six shutout innings, allowing just three hits with two walks and six strikeouts to earn his second victory. Ryder Yakel struck out two in the seventh and Kristian Scott finished out the game with two blank frames. Schaumburg finished with 12 hits, six of which were doubles to match the second most in team history. Hardy finished with three hits and three RBIs. Nieporte doubled twice. All nine members of the lineup recorded a hit.

The six game roadtrip the end the regular season continues for the Boomers (48-43) at Lake Erie tomorrow. RHP Kyle Arjona (8-6, 3.45) makes the start for the Boomers, his 19th of the year, against LHP Dillon Larsen (0-1, 4.15).
