Bennett Adds Medina to Coaching Staff

Schaumburg, IL - The Schaumburg Boomers are pleased to announce the hiring of Hitting Coach Tony Medina. Medina will be entering his first year on Manager Jamie Bennett’s coaching staff. 

 Medina, the native out of Melrose Park, IL, was previously with the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals organizations. He attended St. Patrick High School in Chicago, IL. After graduating high school Medina attended Cornell College where he spent time as a pitcher and a catcher during his college career a part of the Rams’ baseball team from 2012 to 2016. During his time in college and after, Medina also spent some time as an assistant coach for St. Patrick's High School, before joining the Astros minor league system as a Player Development assistant in 2017.

 During the 2018 & 2019 season Medina went on to work for the Lexington Legends, who were affiliated with the Kansas City Royals at the time in a similar role as a player development assistant. In 2020 Tony got promoted to Minor League Development Coach within the Royals organization. He was in charge of the technology and analytics to help both hitters and pitchers develop.

 “We are excited to have Tony on the staff with us. I’ve heard nothing but good things about him. His organizational time will provide a great perspective for our guys. He’s a hard worker and I can tell he is ready to get after it,” said Manager Jamie Bennett.

 In 2021 Medina was a member of the Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats baseball team as an assistant coach which he helped lead them to their first postseason in program history. After the college baseball season ended, Medina went on to join the Texas Rangers Organization as a player development data assistant. Medina also gives private lessons he has also spent time working at BASH Sports Academy in Chicago, IL and DBat in Villa Park, IL.
