Boomers Add Infielder Johnson

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The four-time Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers announced the signing of infielder Keelyn Johnson today.

Johnson was a two-time All-American and a three-time all-conference infielder at Louisiana Christian University, an NAIA program. The right-handed hitter was second in all of NAIA with a batting average of .481 this season, tallying six homers with 42 RBIs. Johnson logged 18 doubles, two triples and walked 43 times along with being hit by a pitch on 12 occasions to record an on-base percentage of .625 while scoring a team best 54 runs. Louisiana Christian finished 32-17 this year.

A four year-starter, Johnson never hit lower than .341 over his five-year tenure at Louisiana Christian sporting a career average of .406 in 127 games with 174 hits, 68 of which went for extra bases. The Pineville, La. Native batted .363 in 2021, .378 before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, .341 in 2019 and .565 in seven games during the 2018 season. Johnson primarily played shortstop but was a top-100 prospect nationally at the catcher position coming out of Pineville High School and second in the state of Louisiana and was committed to LSU.

Louisiana Christian rebranded this year year from Louisiana College, the same school where Schamburg's all-time leader in wins, Seth Webster, attended before joining the Boomers.

To make room for Johnson, the Boomers released infielder Aaron Singh. Singh appeared in 12 games, starting eight, and hit .222 with a homer and three RBIs.

Johnson will be in the starting lineup for tonight’s series finale with Gateway at Wintrust Field.
