Boomers Blanked in Series Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers were shutout in the first game of a weekend series pitting the two teams that played for the championship last year by a 7-0 score at the hands of the Washington Wild Things in Pennsylvania.

The Boomers put on some early pressure but could not solve Washington starter Rob Whalen, a former big-leaguer. The Wild Things scored in five consecutive frames, hitting three homers including two from Andrew Czech. Whalen threw seven blank frames, fanning nine and improving to 5-1 on the year.

Kyle Arjona suffered the loss for the Boomers, allowing six runs in six innings. Michael Slaten worked the seventh and Kristian Scott the eighth. Matt Bottcher tallied two hits including a double and William Salas tallied a triple for Schaumburg as the team totaled seven hits in the defeat. Brett Milazzo singled early to extend his on-base streak to 19 games. The shutout marked the first of the season against the Boomers.

The series continues tomorrow night at 6:05pm Central with RHP Erik Martinez (1-1, 2.45) on the mound against LHP Sandro Cabrera (2-1, 3.48). The Boomers (13-11) will return home on Tuesday against Evansville to open a five game homestand. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now! Visit boomersbaseball.com.
