Boomers Break Through in Middle Game Victory

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers scored in four different innings and came up with several big hits to break through for a 6-2 win over the Joliet Slammers at Wintrust Field on Saturday night.

The Boomers scored in the first inning for the 15th time this year and opened the scoring for the 20th time when Matt Bottcher roped a two-run single in the bottom of the first to plate Clint Hardy and Alec Craig. Joliet scored a pair of runs in the second to tie the game. Thomas DeBonville put the Boomers ahead for good with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to drive home Brett Milazzo. William Salas connected on a two-run homer in the fifth to push the lead to 5-2 and Bottcher padded the lead with an RBI single in the eighth.

Aaron Glickstein threw five innings in a spot start to grab the win, striking out four. Kristian Scott logged a pair of scoreless frames while Jake Joyce worked the eighth and Darrell Thompson struck out the side for the fifth time this season in the ninth. The offense tallied 11 hits and all nine members of the lineup reached base. Bottcher drove home three and notched two hits. Dawson, DeBonville, Salas and Milazzo also tallied two hits. Bottcher, the league’s leader in average, reached base four times and owns 16 multi-hit games this year.

The Boomers (16-20) conclude the Metra Series with a 1:00 pm afternoon affair at Wintrust Field on Sunday. RHP Kyle Arjona (1-4, 6.46) makes the start for the Boomers against RHP Logan Schmitt (1-2, 4.91).
