Hart and Pitching Lead Boomers to Seventh Straight

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Mike Hart hit a grand slam in his first at bat with the team and the 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers secured a seventh straight victory by notching a 6-3 win to sweep the Florence Y’Alls.

Chase Dawson, Braxton Davidson and William Salas recorded three straight singles in the top of the second to load the bases. Hart homered the deep center, becoming the second player in a week to hit a grand slam in his first at bat with the team after Jordan Wiley connected on a slam Wednesday at Lake Erie. Florence pulled within 4-3 by tallying single runs in the third, fifth and seventh but the Boomers responded with two in the eighth to put the game away. Salas doubled to deep center to score Davidson and Hart followed with an RBI double as well.

Blake Stelzer threw six innings to win his third game of the year, striking out seven. Luis Perez struck out two in the seventh and Darrell Thompson fanned five of the six batters faced to log his sixth save. The bats totaled 13 hits. Davidson and Salas both collected three hits. Thomas DeBonville extended his on-base streak to 11 and hitting streak to nine while Clint Hardy extended his hitting streak to seven games in the win.

The Boomers (23-21) hit the road for three games at Evansville beginning tomorrow night at 6:35 pm. RHP Shumpei Yoshikawa (3-4, 6.89) takes the ball in the opener. The team returns to Wintrust Field for a six-game homestand on Friday. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now! Visit boomersbaseball.com.
