Early Burst Leads Boomers Past Windy City

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers saw the first five batters reach base as the team plated three runs in the first inning to notch a 5-1 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts at Wintrust Field on Friday night.

Windy City left runners at second and third in the top of the first and the Boomers responded with a Chase Dawson double and an infield single from William Salas. Mike Hart followed with a triple down the line in right to put the Boomers ahead 2-0. Hart would score later in the inning on an RBI single from Matt Bottcher. Windy City plated a run in the third but Braxton Davidson drove home a run with a groundout in the fifth and Hart added an RBI single in the seventh.

Jumpei Akanuma worked five innings to earn his second win, striking out six. Juan Pichardo fanned three in two scoreless frames and Luis Perez and Jake Joyce closed out the victory. The Boomers finished with nine hits, six of which came from the first three hitters in the lineup (Dawson, Salas and Hart). Hart drove home three runs and owns 11 RBIs in five games with the team.

The Boomers (25-23) continue the series and homestand tomorrow night at 6:00 pm. The first 1,000 fans will receive a replica Boomers jersey courtesy of Wintrust Community Banks and there will be postgame fireworks.
