Boomers Double Up Windy City

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The largest crowd of the season was on hand at Wintrust Field to watch the 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers double up the Windy City ThunderBolts and tally an 8-4 victory on Saturday night.

The visitors opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Schaumburg loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but came up empty. The Boomers broke through in the bottom of the fifth, sending 12 to the plate and scoring six runs. Chase Dawson put the Boomers on the board with an RBI double. Braxton Davidson recorded a three-run double two batters later to put the Boomers ahead at 4-2. Alec Craig and Brett Milazzo added RBI singles in the inning. Windy City scored twice in the seventh to draw within 6-4. Two runs came across in the eighth to provide insurance as the Boomers nabbed the decision.

The Boomers finished with 13 hits in the contest. Dawson finished a homer shy of the cycle by notching four hits. Among the hits was his 15th triple of the year. Dawson is one away from matching the Frontier League record. Milazzo and Davidson both logged a pair of hits. Blake Stelzer earned the win, working into the seventh. Stelzer struck out eight in his third consecutive victory. Kristian Scott notched his team best eighth hold and Darrell Thompson fanned two in two innings to collect his eighth save. The pitching staff fanned 12 while the hitters drew seven walks to go with a pair of hit batters.

The Boomers (26-23) wrap the series with an afternoon game tomorrow at 1:00 pm. The contest will feature pregame catch on the field and postgame autographs courtesy of Wintrust Community Banks. RHP Shumpei Yoshikawa (3-5, 7.01) on the mound. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now! Visit boomersbaseball.com.
