Boomers Match Records in Series Finale

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers matched a pair of records but suffered a 7-5 setback to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the final game of the weekend series at Wintrust Field.

Windy City jumped ahead when the first batter of the game, Daryl Myers hit a homer in his return. The ThunderBolts went on to lead 7-0 as Myers homered again and drove in four. Windy City scored in five different innings.

Facing a flurry of pitchers on a bullpen day, the Boomers finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five runs. Chase Dawson nailed his 16th triple of the year to score Jordan Wiley and Clint Hardy. The 16 triples equal the league record set by Chris Sidick of Washington in 2006. Braxton Davidson followed with a two-run homer to straight away center, his 10th of the year. Alec Craig tripled with two outs and scored on a single from William Salas to cap the scoring. The triple was the 29th of the year for the Boomers to match the franchise mark set last year.

Shumpei Yoshikawa worked five innings and struck out eight, suffering the loss. The pitching staff struck out 15, the second highest total of the year. Tanner Shears fanned two in two innings and Michael Slaten struck out five in two frames. Dawson, Craig and Salas both notched two hits. Hardy extended his hitting streak to 11 games in the eighth.
