Thompson and Bottcher Selected as All-Stars

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Darrell Thompson and Matt Bottcher were chosen to represent the 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers on the West Division team at the Frontier League All-Star Game, hosted by the Washington Wild Things on July 20.

Both players will be making their first career appearance in the All-Star Game. Bottcher, in his second season with the team, has been among the league’s leaders in hitting all season and was selected as the starting second baseman. The Romeoville, Ill. native currently owns a .383 average, second in the league. Bottcher has recorded 17 multi-hit games among 40 contests played while hitting seven homers, driving home 28 runs, scoring 28 runs and swiping six bags. Bottcher joined the Boomers last season following his collegiate career at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Thompson is in his fourth season with the team and has appeared in more games with the team than any other left-handed pitcher in franchise history. The Virginia native has pitched in 24 contests this season, fifth in the league, and is enjoying his best year with the team. Thompson opened the season with 14.1 scoreless innings and owns a 1-0 record with seven saves and a 1.57 ERA in 28.2 innings. The lefty has struck out 48 for an average of 15.07 per nine innings. Thompson has struck out the side six times this year and owns 16 appearances with more than one punchout while converting on his last six save opportunities.

The Boomers (26-24) are off today after finishing 10-3 in a stretch of 13 consecutive contests.
