Evansville Pitches to Win in Opener

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Austin Gossmann threw a complete game as the Evansville Otters recorded a 5-1 win over the 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers in the series opener at Wintrust Field on Tuesday night.

Braxton Davidson broke up a shutout with a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth for the Boomers. The homer marked the 11th of the season for Davidson and his second in as many contests. Evansville recorded four consecutive hits with two outs in the third, taking the lead on a two-run single from J.R. Davis and a two-run homer from Steven Sensley. The Otters added to the lead with a single run in the fifth.

Aaron Glickstein suffered the loss for the Boomers, throwing six innings and striking out six. The pitching staff struck out 10 in a fifth consecutive game with double-digit strikeouts. Kristian Scott struck out two in the seventh and Tanner Shears retired all six batters faced with two strikeouts. Schaumburg leads the league in strikeouts. Blake Grant-Parks came off the injured list to record a pair of hits. All nine members of the lineup reached in the defeat with eight recording hits.

The Boomers (26-25) will have a quick turnaround with an 11:00am Day Camp Game on Wednesday. RHP Kyle Arjona (3-4, 6.04) takes the mound for the Boomers while RHP Brice Stuteville (0-0, 2.55) starts for Evansville. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now! Visit boomersbaseball.com.
