Davidson Drills Walk-Off Homer

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Braxton Davidson hit a walk-off homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers recorded a 4-3 win over the Evansville Otters in the series finale.

Davidson broke a 3-3 tie by pounding an 0-2 pitch with two outs deep over the wall in right. Evansville led 1-0 by scoring a run in the first before the Boomers put three on the board in the third. Cos Cannella recorded an RBI double to score Nick Oddo while Davidson drew a bases loaded walk and Clint Hardy lifted a sacrifice fly. Evansville tied the game with five straight singles in the fifth. Both teams consistently created chances but the pitching staffs held each other at bay until the ninth.

Juan Pichardo earned the win in relief with a perfect top of the ninth. Blake Stelzer allowed three runs in 6.1 innings while Kristian Scott worked 1.2 scoreless. The Boomers drew eight walks in the game. Davidson knocked home a pair of runs while extending his on-base streak to 11. Chase Dawson reached twice to extend his on-base streak to 15. Both teams left 10 on base.

The Boomers (28-25) took two-of-three in the series. The team heads to Gateway for the final three games before the All-Star break. RHP Shumpei Yoshikawa (3-6, 7.02) makes the start for the Boomers against RHP JP Williams (2-4, 4.83). The team will return home on July 26. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now!
