Boomers Open Weekend with Shutout

FLORENCE, Ky. — The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers scored in four different innings and four pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout as the team snapped a three-game skid with a 5-0 win over the Florence Y’Alls in the opener of a weekend series in Kentucky.

The scoring started in the fourth when Clint Hardy, who reached on an error, crossed the plate on a balk. Braxton Davidson pushed the lead to 2-0 with his 15th homer of the year in the top of the sixth. Davidson extended his on-base streak too 39 games, longest in the league this year. Mike Hart tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the seventh while Alec Craig and Chase Dawson both singled home runs in the eighth.

Kobey Schlotman, the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, threw five shutout innings, striking out six to earn his fourth win of the year and third as a starter. Schlotman has tossed 18.1 innings without allowing a run as the lefty has started all three shutouts this season. Kristian Scott spun a pair of innings, Thomas Nicoll worked the eighth and Darrell Thompson struck out the side in the ninth to shut the door. Thompson has struck out the side 11 times this year and the All-Star owns 79 strikeouts on the season. The pitching staff combined to strike out 12 in the shutout.

All nine members of the lineup posted a hit in the game. Craig tallied three from the leadoff slot. William Salas picked up a pair of hits.

The Boomers (44-37) continue the final series of the season’s longest roadtrip tomorrow night at 5:36 p.m. RHP Miguel Reyes (0-1, 3.38) is scheduled to start for the Boomers. LHP Kobey Schlotman (3-1, 5.23) the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Week, takes the ball for the Boomers in the 6:03pm contest. The team returns home on August 23. The 2022 season is winding down.
