Unearned Runs Cost Boomers in Opener at Gateway

SAUGET, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers allowed three unearned runs and dropped the opener of a mid-week series with the Gateway Grizzlies on the road by a 4-1 decision on Tuesday night.

Gateway opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of a two-out error. Drue Galassi tied the game for the Boomers in the top of the sixth with a solo homer, his second of the year. Galassi has hit both homers for the Boomers this season. Gateway came back with two more unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to open a 3-1 lead and tacked on an insurance tally in the eighth.

Aaron Glickstein did not allow an earned run in 5.2 innings, walking one and striking out five but took the loss. Schaumburg finished with seven hits in the defeat. Galassi tallied a pair of hits along with Gaige Howard, who doubled twice. Brett Milazzo reached base three times, drawing a pair of walks.

The series continues with the middle game on Wednesday night at 6:45pm. LHP Kobey Schlotman will make his second start. The home opener at Wintrust Field is on Friday night. Tickets are available by visiting boomersbaseball.com or calling 847-461-3695.
