Gateway Slugs Past Boomers

SAUGET, IL — The Gateway Grizzlies scored 11 unanswered runs to tally a 12-7 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers in the middle game of a road series on Wednesday night.

Schaumburg jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the second. Drue Galassi drove home Chase Dawson with the game’s first run and Will Prater followed with an RBI single to cap the score. Gateway immediately tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the third before erupting for seven runs in the fourth.

The Boomers made it interesting with five runs in the sixth as the first five batters of the inning reached base. Travis Holt drove home the first run with an RBI single. Prater tallied his second run scoring hit to cap the stretch of five straight. Miles Simington doubled home three to cap the inning. Gateway added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to account for the final.

Kobey Schlotman suffered the loss, working three innings in his second start of the year. Dawson and Prater both tallied two hits as the Boomers finished with nine.

The roadtrip concludes with a quick turnaround as the teams meet at 10:35am on Thursday. RHP Luis Perez (1-0, 1.50) the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, makes his second start against RHP Josh Lucas (1-1, 3.60). The home opener at Wintrust Field is on Friday night.
