Boomers Suffer First Shutout Loss

AVON, OHIO — A night after limiting the Lake Erie Crushers to just two hits, Lake Erie returned the favor as four pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout to hand the Boomers their first shutout loss of the season by a 4-0 score.

The Boomers had runners on base in just four innings. The game turned in the top of the third when Jiandido Tromp threw out Alec Craig attempting to score the game’s first run. The Boomers would not have another runner reach third and Lake Erie grabbed the edge in the bottom of the third.

Kobey Schlotman tossed six innings and suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out seven. Cristian Lopez finished the game with two innings of work. Craig walked twice in the game and recorded a steal but Lake Erie swiped six bases. Blake Berry logged the only extra-base hit with a double in the seventh. Gaige Howard saw his 33-game on-base streak end with an 0-for-4 showing.

The rubber contest of the series is tomorrow night at 6:05pm CST. RHP Aaron Glickstein (2-2, 2.89) is scheduled to start against LHP Kyle Seebach (1-2, 4.91). Schaumburg (21-13) is back at home this weekend for three more days of fun-filled action at Wintrust Field including a pair of fireworks displays.
