Boomers Edged by Lake Erie

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Two runs in the second inning were enough for the Lake Erie Crushers to topple the Schaumburg Boomers 2-1 before a crowd of over 6,000 in a pitcher’s duel at Wintrust Field on Saturday night.

Lake Erie opened the scoring in the top of the second with a two-run double off the bat of Jiandido Tromp, who was activated from the injured list prior to the contest. The runs would be the only two of the contest for the Crushers. The Boomers battled within 2-1 in the fifth inning. Alec Craig led off with a double and John Fiorenza followed with a single. Gaige Howard lifted a sacrifice fly to score the lone run. The Lake Erie pitching staff ended the game by retiring 15 straight.

Jackson Hickert was the hard luck loser, allowing just two runs in six innings with two walks and five strikeouts. Miguel Reyes struck out four in two blank frames and Merfy Andrew fanned a pair in the ninth. The Boomers managed just three hits in the loss.

The Boomers (30-18) conclude the series with Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 pm contest that will take the team into the Frontier League All-Star Break. It’s Bark in the Park – bring your dog to the ballgame! There will also be Pre-game catch on the field and Post-game autographs presented by Wintrust!
