Boomers Sweep Florence on the Road

FLORENCE, Ky. — The Schaumburg Boomers did not trail in grabbing a 17-8 victory in Kentucky over the Florence Y’Alls to sweep the weekend series and run their win streak to seven games.

Kokko Figueiredo stayed hot since joining the Boomers, opening the scoring with a missile of a three-run homer down the right field line in the top of the third. Figueiredo homered twice in the series and owns 14 RBIs since joining the Boomers. Brennan Price connected on his third homer of the series for Florence in the bottom of the inning to pull the hosts within 3-1. Will Prater lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Sonny Ulliana added an RBI double as a pair of runs pushed the margin to 5-1.

Florence scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded with one away but starter Shumpei Yoshikawa was able to limit the damage thanks to a double play as the Boomers held on to a 5-4 lead. Figueiredo doubled and scored in the sixth to provide an insurance tally. Yoshikawa retired seven consecutive batters into the bottom of the sixth.

The Boomers broke the game open in the seventh, matching a season high by scoring nine runs on seven hits and sending 14 batters to the plate to open a 15-4 lead. All nine members of the lineup reached base and scored in the inning as the first 10 batters reached against two different pitchers before an out was recorded. Ulliana connected on a two-run homer, his third of the series and second of the game after hitting a grand slam in the seventh, in the eighth to extend the lead to 17-4. Price hit a grand slam of his own in the eighth to account for the final.

Every member of the lineup posted a hit for the Boomers and every member of the order also scored as Schaumburg finished with 16 hits. Ulliana knocked home seven runs and logged the second multi-homer game of the year for the Boomers. Schaumburg has scored 10 or more runs on 10 or more hits in four straight contests. Yoshikawa worked seven innings to win his third of the year on the mound.

The Boomers (40-24) return home for a big single game on Monday night against the Gateway Grizzlies. RHP Aaron Glickstein (4-2, 3.49) is the scheduled starter against RHP Lukas Veinbergs (5-3, 6.36).
