Boomers Move Back into First Place Tie

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers jumped ahead early and did not trail in easing to a 9-1 victory over the Washington Wild Things on Tuesday night in the opener of a mid-week series at Wintrust Field.

The Boomers wasted no time in jumping ahead as Alec Craig led off the game with a single and came in to score on an error with two outs. The lead extended to 3-0 in the third on a two-run homer from Kokko Figueiredo with two outs. The Boomers would score in six different innings to ease to the victory. Sonny Ulliana notched RBI singles in the fourth and eighth while Blake Berry tallied an RBI single in the sixth. Kyle Fitzgerald drove home another run with a bases loaded sacrifice fly and Figueiredo added a sacrifice fly as well. Brett Milazzo doubled home a run in the fourth.

Hunter Hoopes worked six innings and allowed just one run, a solo homer from Robert Chayka in the sixth. Hoopes allowed just two hits while walking three and striking out three. Aaron Glickstein threw two blank frames in relief, striking out the side in the seventh and Kristian Scott finished out the win. The Boomers posted double digit hits for the sixth consecutive contest. Craig, Chase Dawson, Milazzo and Ulliana all posted two hits.

The Boomers (41-25) moved back into a first place tie by virtue of a Gateway loss and will continue the series with Washington at 6:30 pm on Wednesday night, Addams Family and Wednesday themed fun presented by Woodfield Mall.
